Alghanim Industries sponsors 10th Takween Charity Reading Marathon

Alghanim Industries (Kutayba Alghanim Group), one of the largest private companies in the region, recently sponsored the 10th biannual Takween Charity Reading Marathon organized and hosted by Takween Bookstore at Design District, Shuwaikh. The two-day marathon, from 16 to 17 December, hosted a multitude of avid readers all enjoying a family friendly event with a focus on education.

The event marks the first collaboration between Alghanim Industries and Takween Bookstore, a unique and community-driven event in which sponsors pledge to donate KWD 1 for every 10 pages read by participants during the marathon. This year’s marathon welcomed a total of 786 participants who read a grand total of 54,310 pages. The considerable donations are all channeled into pathways that provide financial aid to underserved students, alleviating the many academic fees that hinder their educational experience.

Alongside its key sponsorship of a cause central to Alghanim Industries’ many commitments toward more equitable education for all, the company donated 10 Kindle e-reader devices to be raffled for all participants in the charity event, courtesy of X-cite by Alghanim Electronic. Alghanim Industries also provided all participants in the reading marathon with complimentary coffee and tea beverages through Costa Coffee, the world-famous coffee house brand operated by Alghanim Industries in several markets across the region.

Alghanim Industries is a recurring sponsor of a great number of education focused initiatives, highlighting the company’s longstanding support for greater accessibility in learning through its campaigns with local private companies, educational institutions, government programs and nongovernmental organizations. Alghanim Industries’ partnered campaigns such as sponsoring Kuwait Codes, collaborating with INJAZ-Kuwait and providing scholarships with Arab Open University, are all aimed at empowering the youth and their educational pursuits.

Commenting on the grand success of the reading marathon and the great reception it held in the community, the head of Takween’s organizing committee, Khadeija Alshammari, expressed her gratitude for the “utmost support” by the private sector and its sponsorship of the marathon’s 10th event. Alshammari also added that the “shared values” between the participating companies yielded a “substantial result that will ensure a large portion of underserved children receive the education they deserve.”
