Q. Where is Kuwait?

A. The State of Kuwait is a sovereign Arab emirate situated in the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south and Iraq to the north and lies on the north-western shore of the Persian Gulf.
 

Q. What is the currency in Kuwait?

A. The Kuwaiti unit of currency is the Kuwaiti dinar, abbreviated as KD. It is the strongest currency in the world. It is a relatively stable and freely convertible currency. Local newspapers print the prevailing exchange rates daily. The dinar is divided into thousandths known as fils.
 

Q. What is the political and economic status of Kuwait?

A. Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system. ‘Kuwait city’ is its political and economic capital. It is a high income economy with one of the world’s largest oil reserves and is voted amongst the top 20 richest countries in the world.
 

Q. What is the population of Kuwait? Do a lot of expatriates come to Kuwait?

A. Kuwait’s population is approx. 3 to 3.5 million. Approx. 1/3rd of the entire population is expatriates from countries around the world. For example, Alghanim has up to 61 different nationalities working in different businesses within Kuwait.
 

Q. Is Kuwait a dry country with respect to alcohol?

A. Yes. Alcohol is illegal in Kuwait and there are no bars or clubs that serve alcohol.
 

Q.  Do woman have to cover themselves or wear a veil in Kuwait?

A. No.  This is a matter of choice.  Like all countries, a degree of modesty is required in public but the dress is very modern and fashionable.
 

Q.  Can women drive in Kuwait?

A. Anyone can drive in Kuwait subject to meeting the standard requirements in terms of possessing a driving licence or passing the Kuwait driving test. Please discuss these requirements with your recruiter at the time of interviewing.
 

Q. What is the standard of schooling?

A. Alongside the State schools, Kuwait has a selection of British, American, French and Indian schools.  These follow the same curriculum as those in the home countries.
 

Q.  What are the temperatures like in Kuwait?

A. In the middle of the summer, Kuwait can have temperatures ranging upwards of 55° Celsius (over 130° Fahrenheit). While any time spent out of doors will be hot indeed, most buildings are air-conditioned, and you may need a jacket or wrap indoors. High temperatures of 35 - 40° Celsius may last into October, but in the winter the highs fall dramatically, and the nights can be quite chilly. Several times a year the temperature drops below 10° Celsius.
 

Q. Do I need to be able to speak Arabic to work in Kuwait?

A. The official and native language of Kuwait is Arabic, but English of varying standards is widely spoken.  English is the official business language at Alghanim Industries and everyone in Kuwait – from Taxi Drivers to Waiters speak enough English to make conversation easy. On the streets, you will hear several languages.
 

Q.  Can I access international banking in Kuwait?

A. Kuwait is a wealthy country with a large number of excellent banks which deal internationally.
