FAQ - Kuwaitization

 

Q. What is the minimum and maximum age to apply?

A. The minimum age to apply for a job is 18 years. There is no maximum age to apply for a position within Alghanim. However, Kuwaiti nationals who are government employees cannot apply for jobs in Alghanim due to Quota requirement.


Q. What are the minimum skills with which I can apply for jobs?

A. Although we accept all levels of qualifications, knowledge of English (reading, writing and speaking) and computing skills are essential for performing in our jobs.


Q. Is it possible to work part time? How many hours a day do I have to work on a part time job? Can I decide the time of the day I want to work?


A. Yes, it is possible to work part time in the company provided that you are listed as an employee of Alghanim Industries in the Ministry of social affairs and labour (MOSAL). The duration of the part time job could vary from 6 to 15 hours a week depending on the role. The timing can be flexible based on approval from the line manager.


Q. If I am working part time for Alghanim, can I work for another company?

A. No. If you work part time for Alghanim, you cannot work for another company.


Q. How long with the part time job last?

A. Your part time job is a permanent job at Alghanim i.e. you are permanent employee of the company and are not on a time based contract.


Q. Can I be registered with PISS and MGRP, if I have a part time job?

A. Yes, you have to be registered with PISS (Public Institute for Social Security) and MGRP (Manpower Government Restructuring Plan) to work with Alghanim.


Q. The child allowance that applies to my father. What are the rules around that?

A. If you are a student working with us part time, your father will lose the allowance (children allowance KD 50/-) if he is still working and not yet retired. However, if you are aged 25 years or more, you can claim your MGRP allowance. If you are a student working with us part time and receiving the MGRP allowance, you can also continue receiving your education allowance.


Q. What documents do I need to sign an offer with Alghanim?

A. You will need the following documents to sign an offer with Alghanim:

  • Copy of Valid Civil ID
  • Copy of Kuwaiti Birth Certificate
  • Copy of  Kuwaiti National Identity Card
  • Copy of your ATM Card
  • A letter of salary transfer from the bank 
  • Criminal record check 
  • Medical Check

     
Q. What is the process after I decide to accept the offer?

A. Before you formally sign the offer letter, we need a certificate from PISS that clearly states that you are not an employee at another organization (only for applicants who were previously working). Alghanim manages the entire registration process.

You need to then get a criminal record check at the concerned Identification and finger prints Division office in Sharq (second floor) and then proceed to get your medicals done at Al- Sabah Hospital  (for chest X-ray) and Ministry of Health Employment Division in Salhiya (for urine/blood tests). Once you get your certificates from the relevant authorities, you can sign a formal contract with Alghanim. Please see question above for the list of documents you will need to sign an offer with Alghanim.

We will then begin the process for registering you as an Alghanim employee at PISS. Registration with PISS is instant but it normally takes 12 days for relevant certificates to be made for you. On completion of the 12 days, you need to visit any of the PISS offices to pick up the 3 certificates. These certificates can be picked up in person by you. Alghanim cannot pick up these certificates on your behalf. Click here to see a sample of the 3 certificates that you will receive from PISS.

Once the you submit the 3 certificates to us, we will prepare a salary certificate so that you can claim your MGRP allowance, and we can officially register you as an Alghanim employee with MOSAL (Ministry of Social Affairs & Labour.
 

Q. After accepting an offer of employment, when can I start working?

A. You can start working with Alghanim immediately after signing the contract but your salary will be released once you have submitted the 3 certificates given to you by PISS.
 

Q. What is the MGRP allowance and am I eligible for it?

A. The MGRP is a special allowance that covers social allowances for married/ single nationals, children allowance, allowance to cover the difference in the high cost of living etc. Primarily, these allowances are meant to encourage nationals to work in the private sector. MGRP allowances usually starts from a mere of KD 400/- and increase subject to academic qualification or change of status i.e. married/ single/children.

Students aged 25 year or more with employment and registered with PISS are eligible to apply for the MGRP allowance. Non students aged 18 or more with employment and registered with PISS are also eligible to apply for the MGRP allowance.
 

Q. If I am eligible for MGRP allowance, will I have to be registered with PISS as well?

A. Yes. You have to be registered with PISS in order to apply for the MGRP allowance.
 

Q. When can I apply for the MGRP allowance? What documents will I need to apply for the MGRP allowance and when will I start receiving the MGRP allowance?


A. Once PISS issues the 3 certificates and Alghanim issues the salary certificate, you can apply for the MGRP allowance. The process needs to be managed by you at the MGRP office in Dajeej. You will need the following documents to apply for the MGRP allowance.

  • Original + copy of academic qualification certificate (Certified and attested if issued by an institution not based in Kuwait)
  • Recent passport size photographs
  • Original + Copy of Civil ID
  • Salary certificate from Alghanim
  • 3 certificates from PISS (original)

You will start receiving your MGRP allowance 3 months after you apply. You will also receive the MGRP allowance for the elapsed 3 months with your first allowance payment.

Imp: Please note that if you join the company before between Jan and April, it is important to apply for MGRP allowance before April of the year else you may lose the MGRP allowance for the months before April. This is due to change in the financial year in the ministry. For more information on the same, please contact the Kuwaitization team upon joining.
 

Q. I am a retired Kuwaiti National. Can I apply for a job at Alghanim?

A. Yes. We accept job applications from retired Kuwaiti nationals if they have not retired from their previous job due to medical reasons. Alghanim will make sure that for Kuwaiti retirees who secure a job with Alghanim, we will manage their registration with PISS. Before you consider employment with Alghanim, please be aware of the following:

  • Since retirement benefits are being given to you, you will not be able to apply for MGRP.
  • Please check with PISS if they are ready to continue retirement pension alongside the salary that you will receive from Alghanim because in certain cases, the retirement pension is stopped upon you securing a job.

     
Q. What are the deductions on my monthly salary?

A. On behalf of PISS, Alghanim deducts 7% of your total salary as contributions towards PISS. The remaining 11% contribution is borne by Alghanim on your behalf i.e. Alghanim pays 11% of your total salary to PISS and does not deduct this amount from your salary. You experience a deduction of 7% per month only.
 

Q. What other forms of allowance am I eligible for?

A. In addition to 30 days leave, all full time employees (Kuwaiti nationals only) will receive a special allowance called Kuwaiti allowance. The amount of the allowance depends on the level of qualification and the years of experience and whether it is a part time/ full time job.
